An interview with Candida Tobin, creator of the Colour Music Method.

This short film was made in 1975.

Candida talks about how easy it is to teach children (and by default, adults) to not only read music, but compose music too.

My father Chris Dell helped develop Candida's method from 1972 to 2002, designing and typesetting all the books published in those years.

The genius of the Colour Music Method makes my job as a guitar teacher not only so much easier, but much more enjoyable, as it accelerates the learning process immeasurably.

Over 13 years that I have been teaching full-time, some of my students have passed grade 5 guitar ABRSM (traditionally the tougher examining board) within one year.

Traditional wisdom asserts that it takes 1 year to pass grade 1, 2 years for grade 2, 3 years for grade 3 . . etc.

Candida's system for teaching music is the best thing ever contributed to music education.

Enjoy the film.

  1. Steve,

Thanks for your comment on our website. I'd love to learn more about the Tobin method. I'm in the USA, and am not sure how I could purchase some of her materials. Any ideas?
